Abstract
latrogenic vascular injuries during lumbar disc surgery are rare cases. Up to date approximately 200 cases have been reported. Because of the variability of the clinical manifestations, early diagnosis is not always possible and this may play a role in being low number of reported cases. When the first symptoms of retroperitoneal bleeding appear, di agnosis should be suspected. But slowly development of the false aneurysm or arteriovenous fistula usually prevents early diagnosis. Urgent diagnosis and treatment may decrease mortality rate that is currently 50 %. While one of the two cases in our report is about acute manifestations caused by arterial injury, the other one is about chronic manifes tations of an arteriovenous fistula diagnosed and treated after several years.
