Abstract | | | | The aim of this study is to assess water analyses made by Aydin Province Public Health Laboratory in the year 2004. This is a descriptive study in which microbiological and physical-chemical water analyses performed by Aydin Province Public Health Laboratory in the year 2004 are evaluated by checking records and the ones found harmful to health are assessed retrospectively and compared with the results of Turkey. In the year 2004, 4410 drinking-using water analyses have been made and %17,0 have been found harmful for health in Aydin Province Public Health Laboratory. Of microbiological inspections, 594 (16,6%), of physical- chemical inspections 154 (%18,7) have been found harmful to health. Of the samples, % 64,8% were less- contaminated (n=385), 1% moderately (n=6) and 34,2% highly contaminated (n=203). Hardness was over 50 French degrees in 25,8% (n=39); organic content was over 3,5 mg/l (n=12) in 7,8%, free chlorine was over 0,5mg /l in 14,0% of the samples (n=21). Water borne outbreaks may occur if water is not hygienic. Thus, regular and sufficient assessment is very important.
