Abstract
The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of School Exprience I course on Turkish pre-service elementary Mathematics teachers understandings about the concepts of teaching and learning. Similarly, it aims to determine the change in their perceptions about teachers and students roles. Research participants were eighty-two Turkish junior pre-service mathematics teachers who attend to Elementary Education Department of Marmara University, in stanbul, Türkiye. Data were collected throughout the Spring 2000 semester. Data were gathered through document analysis of portfolios and questionnaires, and analyzed in a qualitative manner and were evaluated with open coded method. This research contributes other research studies by emphasizing the effect of School Exprience I course on prospective Mathematics teachers understandings about the concepts of teaching and learning.
