Abstract
The Free Open Source Software (FOSS) movement in education gains more and more attention.FOSS is being utilized in two different ways. First, FOSS is used as core information technology applications such as mail servers, firewall, web servers, gateway etc. Second, FOSS provides simple solutions for teachers, students, and staff such as desktop applications, office programs, graphic and multimedia editors. A third way of using FOSS type solutions exists. This position paper attempts to broaden educators understanding of FOSS by providing an example of Keduca which is an educational package having different applications running under K Desktop Environment KDE.
