Objective: To explore the relationship of perceived stress and psychological wellbeing and the gender differences among irritable bowel syndrome adolescents.
Methodology: This cross-sectional correlational study was conducted in different hospital of Lahore, Pakistan and included 80 male and female adolescents with irritable bowel syndrome. The age range was 15-25 years and were selected using non-random convenient sampling method. Perceived stress scale and Ryff psychological well-being scale and Rosenberg self-esteem scale were used for data collection.
Results: The perceived work stress was significantly negatively correlated with psychological well-being (ϒ =-0.823**, N= 80, p≤0.000). There were significant differences in the score of male and female on psychological wellbeing scale (Male mean score =35.3 SD =5.21 Female mean score =22.7, SD =2.75). Age, gender, socio-economic status, living environment and self-esteem were predictors of psychological wellbeing.
