The difficulties of defining and measuring self employment have been discussed in the literature. The concept of self employment is fraught with ambiguity. On the one hand, self employment is a type of entrepreneurship. Sometimes, a self employed worker may be an entrepreneur improving products, production process and exploiting new opportunies. On the other hand, it is sametimes thought that individuals are driven into self employment by poor opportunities in the labor market.
