A rare cause of neonatal salt wasting: primary pseudohypoaldosteronism

Abstract

Salt wasting is a situation of hyponatremia, hypernatriurea and dehydration because of body’s inability to hold sodium and as a result of lose sodium from kidneys and other exocrine glands. Pseudohypoaldestorenism is a salt wasting condition because of peripheral resistance to aldosterone. Peripheral resistance can be seen primarily because of receptor defect from a mutation at mineralocorticoid receptor or epithelial sodium channel, and receptor resistance secondary to infection, uropathy and drugs. Generally in newborn period give findings as hyponatremia, hyperkalemia and metabolic acidosis and diagnose as significantly elevated plasma renin activity and aldosterone levels at investigations. Here in this case report; 11 days old girl applied with severe dehydration because of salt wasting presented because of primary pseudohypoaldosteronism which is a rare disorder.
