Abstract

Chemical investigation of the MeOH/DCM (1:1 v/v) extract of the leaves and fruit of Kigelia africana afforded lupeol (1), β-sitosterol (2), β-Sitosteryl β-D-glucoside (3), canophyllol (4), fibrarecisin (5), pomolic acid (6), hydroxy-pomolic acid 7, β-friedelinol (8), sesamin (9), and paulownin (10). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and by comparison of their spectral data with those reported in the literature. Among them, compounds 1, 5-10 were firstly isolated from this plant. The structures of 1-10 were identify by comparaison of their 1H and/or 13C NMR data with those reported in the literature.

Key words: Kigelia africana, Bignonaceae, Triterpenes
