RELEVANCE OF TRADITIONALSYSTEMS OF MEDICINE TO PRESENT TIMES
HAKIM MOHAMMED ABDUR RAZZACK.
Abstract
Attainment of Health for all by 2000 A.D. is an ambitious goal and is quite simply beyond the scope of present Health Care Systems, that is why W.H.O. has proposed that the great number of traditional healers who practice today in every country of the world should not be overlooked. For, they are already living in those remote communities, ultimately involved with life there and trusted by them. Although traditional medicine is resourcefully rich in its cultural heritage but its potential is not fully realized and utilized in many countries because of ideological, political and technical constraints, discriminatory attitudes especially amongst health professionals, lack of adequate training and insufficient knowledge of their activities. It is in this context that we have to examine critically and explore fully what Traditional Medicine has to offer to the masses in the time to come.
