Objective: This study was planned for investigating the probable effects of 2 and 4 mg erdostein use on fetal lung maturation
Materials and Methods: Wistar-Albino pregnant rats were divided into 3 groups as group I (n=10): SHAM; group II (n=10): Erdosteine 2mg, group III (n=10):Erdosteine 4 mg. The medication were given orally to pregnant rats at the end of first week and continued until the day of fetus excision by laparotomy at day 13 or day 18. Following the delivery, birth weight, crown-rump length, weight of whole lung were measured. The maturation of lungs were evaluated histopathologically. Fetuses were grouped according to the developmental stages of lungs.
Results : There were no significant differences in birth weight and crown-rump length between the group I, II and III for the fetuses of day 13. Only whole lung weights of group III was significantly higher compared to group I (p
