Vertigo is only the one type of dizziness and a symptom of illusory movement, not a diagnosis. It arises because of asymmetry in the vestibular system due to damage or dysfunction of the labyrinth, vestibular nerve, or central vestibular structures in the brainstem.
Vertigo is a troubling problem for many clinicians because of a large range of diagnosis from benign to immediately a life threatening situation. However, in most cases, central and peripheral etiologies can identify by clinical history, especially combined with examination findings
In this review,we discuss the pathophysiology, etiology, clinical approach and treatment of vertigo.
