Physical Activity of The Bank Personnel in Malatya City

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the physical activity level of the personnel working at the
banks in central Malatya.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted through all 21 banks at the centrum with their 451 personnel
without any sampling. Data collection was done during April-May 2001. A self-administered questionnaire which
contained items about demographic characteristics, physical activity and some of the chronic diseases were
distributed to the personnel. Three hundreds and sixty seven usable responses were obtained. The coverage
(response) rate was 81.0%.
Results: Two hundreds and cleven211 personnel (57.5%) had performed at least one kind of physical activity
during the month preeceding the survey and 156 personnel (42.5%) had not performed any. The most frequently
performed physical activity was walking done by 65.4%. The most frequent reasons for not performing any
activity were; having no time, social barriers, and having a disease, respectively. Only 70 personnel (19.0%) out of
all had performed physical activity regularly. Regular physical activity level was higher among those who were 40
