Hepatitis E Virüs (HEV) Seropositivity in Blood Donors: The Efect of Some Demographic Characteristics on HEV Seroprevalence

This study was performed to determine Hepatitis E virus seropositivity in bloo d donors and the effect of some demographic characteristics on HEV infection. A total of 216 blood donors were randomly selected and grouped according to their age, education and economic status. Anti-HEV IgG and IgM positivities were determined by enzyme-immunoassay. HEV seropositivity was found in 21 (9.7%) of the donors. There were no significant differences among age groups and sexes. Although there was no statistical significance, higher seropositivities were observed in the groups including the donors with lower educational and economic status.
