Resistance index is one of the most frequently used and most reliable parameters to monitor renal allograft dysfunction. Many studies have been performed to determine normal values for resistance index. The aim of our study was to determine the relationship between the accepted normal value for resistance index and blood creatinine level that refers to the unstabLlLty Ln transplanted kLdneys.
41 transplanted patients (39 donors and 2 cadavers) were involved. During periodic examinations of the patients, blood creatinine levels were measured and at the same time Doppler ultrasound examination were performed. Patients were grouped according to their blood creatinine levels and the results of resistance index on Doppler ultrasound examination as stable or unstable. Correlation between the parameters was investigated.
Good correlation was determined between blood creatinine level (1.6 mgr/dl) and resistance index (RI =0.7).
In conclusion, in the diagnosis and follow-up of renal allograft dysfunction, blood creatinine level in excess of 1.6 mg/dl is confirmed with Doppler ultrasound resistance index.
