The nasal carrier rate of Staphylococcus aureus and methicillın- resistant Staphylococcus aureus among Turgut Özal Medical Center staff

Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus nasal carriage was screened among the staff of Turgut Özal Medical Çenter and the sensitivity of S. aureus to methicillin was determined. S. aureus was isolated from 72 out of 133 nasal swabs obtained from the hospital staff (32 °%) and from 20 out of 61 nasal swabs obtained from the control group (33 °%). The difference between the groups was not statistically significant (p> 0.05). There was no resistance to methicillin in the control group whereas 11 % of the hospital staff were evaluated as nasal MRSA carriers.
