Prevalence of premenstrual syndrome among high school students in Malatya

Abstract
This cross-sectional study was carried out to 447young girls aged 16-21 years in two high schools in Malatya. The objective of this study was to determine prevalence of premenstrual syndrome. Premenstrual syndrome was defined using research criteria for premenstrual dysphoric disorder of DSM-IV. The prevalence of premenstrual syndrome was determined as 21% among girl students. The statistical analysis applied chi-square and backward logistic regression. Premensrual syndrome was significantly related to dysmenorrhea, drinking cola frequently, having negative opinions about menstruasion. [Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center 1997;4(4):403-406]
