Abstract
Aims: The dysfunction of cardiac autonomic nervous system has been observed in patients with cardiac failure. A relation between the depression of heart rate veriability (HRV) and the extent of left ventricular dysfunction has been controversially reported. HRV is used to assess cardiac autonomic function. In this study, we examined HRV parameters and autonomous state in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP) or congestive heart failure (CHF).
Methods: Cardiac autonomous activity was assessed noninvasively from 24-hour electrocardiographic ambulatory recording by calculating heart rate variability (HRV). Mean RR, SNDD, rMSSD and PNN 50 %> were measured in ali patients and controi subjects (CS) (18 idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy patients and 20 control subjects). In addition 18, patients with DCMP or CHF were classiHed according to functionai cardiac status (New York Heart Association).
