Objective: To assess the clinical presentation and management options of pelvic kidney at our institution.
Methodology: This retrospective cross sectional study included 50 patients with ectopic pelvic kidneys, who were seen from January 2014 to December 2019 at Urology Department, CMC Larkana. We recorded age, gender and chief complains, full blood count, blood group and cross matching, renal profile, clotting profile and urine culture report, ultrasound and IVP. MAG renal scanning was done where poor functioning kidney were seen.
Results: Mean age in males was 27±13.1 and in females 22±13.8 years. Male to female ratio was1:0.42. 35(70%) ectopic kidneys found on right side while 15(30%) in left side. 40 patients treated by conservatively, while seven needed pyelolithotomy, two had pyeloplasty and one underwent nephrectomy.
Conclusion: Pelvic kidneys are congenital anomalies having different presentation from asymptomatic to non-functioning with abnormal anatomy. They should be treated in same way as normally located kidneys but require much expertize due to change in vascular anatomy.
