Abstract

Ovarian cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide and in Vietnam. However, the factors affecting the survival rate of ovarian cancer patients still need further understanding. This secondary analysis study was conducted on the data collected from the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital during the period of 2018-2021. The patients' overall survival was evaluated using the Kaplan-Meier model, and several factors, including clinical characteristics and non-clinical indices, were also analyzed. Out of 305 patients who were initially diagnosed with ovarian cancer, the mean age was 49.43 ± 0.90. In which, 233 patients (76.39%) were definitively diagnosed with this disease. 91 of 179 patients with complete FIGO staging data were at advanced stages (stage III and stage IV) at the time of diagnosis. No significant difference in complete blood count tests, biochemical analysis, and electrolytes was found between ovarian cancer and non-ovarian cancer groups, except for PLT, SGOT, and Chloride level. Age, length of stay, the plasma level of coagulation factors, and cancer markers including carcinoma antigen 125 (CA125) and human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) were positively correlated with the FIGO stage of patients. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed on a sub-cohort sample of 95 patients with sufficient information. The 48-month survival rate of ovarian cancer patients was nearly 70% and was affected by age and FIGO stage. Age and FIGO stage were major factors affecting the overall survival rate in the study group.
