The Economic Saving Provided From Starting The Activity Of Primary Heath Service In A Military Unit

Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the economic saving after starting the activities of examination and pharmacy in a infirmary. The study was descriptive one and performed in a military base at 2002. During 2002, 3329 patients visited the infirmary. Distribution of the patients was as follows; privates (2162, 64.9%), noncommissioned officer (216, 6.4%), officers (32, 1,0%), personnel families (883, 26.5%), civil servants (20, 0.6%) and retired personnel (16, 0.4%). 2437 of the the patients (73.2%) were treated on the base. The earnings resulted from infirmary visits constituted 79.0% (10.722.800.000 TL) of the total earnings (13.580.800.000 TL). Because of starting primary health service in the base, it had been unnecessary to direct most of the patients (73.2%) to the second stage health units.
