Comperative Evaluation of Diagnostic Profile, Age, Sex and Educational Background of Patients to Have Referred to Dental Clinic for Tooth and Gingival Diseases

Abstract

Aim: Due to their high prevalence and relapse rates, tooth and gingival diseases are defined as one of the most important health problems. This study aimed to detect whether some external factors such as oral hygiene, educational background, sex and age are effective on diagnosis of patients and to find out if there is a statistically significant relationship between these factors.
Method: In the scope of the study; those factors, gingival and plaque indices and diagnostic profiles of the patients were examined.
Results: It was recorded that people with higher educational background paid more attention to oral hygiene, that middle-aged and young individuals had better oral health care and that females were more cautious about oral hygiene more than males.
Coclusion: Early diagnosis increases the possibility of easy and successful treatments and decreases caries rate, which is considerably high among Turkish population, and can reduce the workload of dentists.
