Abstract
AIM: This descriptive study was conducted for the purpose of determining the status of families' coping with stress who have a handicapped child.
METHOD: Sampling was not done as the study was conducted with the entire population (80) of whom 70 individuals were reached. The research data were collected using a questionnaire developed by the researcher and the "Styles of Coping with Stress Scale." Data were evaluated with number-percentage calculations, Kruskall-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests.
RESULTS: Statistically significant differences were found in styles of coping with stress and the family's degree of closeness to the child, educational level, type of work and occupational status, income level, family type, age of handicapped child, status of having social support, place of residence, and status of having a transportation problem (p
