Background: Nowadays, the search for new pharmacotherapy from medicinal plants to treat the peripheral vascular disease, chronic wound healing, and ischemic heart diseases was significantly increased.
Aim and Objective: The current study was done to evaluate the angiogenic activity of ethanolic extract of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn. (EEHR) using chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model.
Materials and Methods: The angiogenic activity of H. rosa-sinensis Linn. (50, 100, 200, and 300 mg/egg) in chick embryos was assessed using chick CAM assay. Pyruvic acid 300 mg/egg was used as standard drug which is used to promote the blood vessels growth.
Results: The outcome of the study confirmed that H. rosa-sinensis contains active constituents (vitamins, proteins, and phytosterols), which possess angiogenic activity and these are probably related to the inhibition of myocardial infarction, peripheral diseases, and chronic wounds. It was exhibited angiogenic activity by triggered neovascularization in concentration dependent manner.
Conclusion: We concluded that EEHR flower possesses significant angiogenic activity and these new blood vessels are participated in circulation of blood cells in chick egg.
